Mr. Billy Ray Corey Sr.

Mr. Billy Ray Corey Sr., age 73, of Shannon, Georgia, passed away on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at a local hospital.

Mr. Corey was born on January 19, 1953, in Everett, Kentucky, a son of the late Luther Posey and Mildred Dickson. In addition to his father, he is preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie Corey and one brother, Raymond Corey.

Billy was an accomplished mason and carpenter who truly enjoyed designing, building, and working on various projects and structures. His masonry skills are on display throughout Rome and Northwest Georgia, and he was honored to have worked on the historic Barnsley Gardens Ruins. Billy was a resident of Shannon since 1986, where the greatest example of his love for carpentry still stands - in the home he built, along with his family. It was here, where he resided, loved to be, and made precious memories with his family and friends. After retiring, Billy didn't stop using his hands. He took up the game of golf, enjoyed camping and fishing, working with honey bees, and even did some blacksmithing! The outdoors didn't hold all of his interests though,often you'd find him in the kitchen. He was a great cook who loved nothing more than to prepare special meals for family holiday traditions! Billy was a loving man to his family, his friends, and a wonderful husband to his late wife, Mrs. Bonnie Corey, to whom he was married for 50 years.He also was a huge lover of animals, especially his dogs, Soldier and Friday. Billy will be greatly missed by all those lucky enough to know him.

Survivors include his mother, Mildred Dickson; three sons, Billy Ray Corey Jr., Joseph "Joey" (Vickey) Daugherty, Donnie (Sandy) Giudice; one daughter, Kasey (Sam) Davis; 8 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; one sister, Leona Posey. 

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at 2PM in the Chapel of Reynolds Funeral Home, 5865 New Calhoun Hwy., Rome, Georgia, 30161.
