Mrs. Eileen Lois Henderson, age 95, of Calhoun, Georgia, passed away on Monday, August 4th, 2025, at Morning Pointe Assisted Living.
Mrs. Henderson was born on April 11th, 1930, daughter of the late George Alfred Long and the late Ethel Arvilla Thorp Long. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Loyd Henderson; one son, Steven Allen Henderson; infant brother, Charles Alfred Long; two sisters, Joan Mae Long Edmonds and Barbara Jean Long Fauer Paulitch.
She was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. As a young lady, she met the love of her life, Mr. Arthur Loyd Henderson, while attending church. He was a handsome soldier on leave, and they quickly fell in love. They married on August 27, 1951, and spent a lifetime together, rooted in faith and love. She was a devoted follower of Christ and was of the Baptist faith. She lived her life as an example of grace, compassion, and quiet strength. She was a prayer chain member and avidly read her Bible everyday. She let her light shine in every role she carried—from wife and mother and then later on, "Grandma Eileen."
She poured her heart into her family, especially her grandchildren, with whom she created countless cherished memories. One such memory lives on with her family: the time she joyfully slid down a steep, icy hill in Michigan with her granddaughter, only to need her husband's help—with a shovel—to climb back up. Her laughter and love were present in every moment she spent with them.
Mrs. Henderson enjoyed cooking, sewing, and caregiving. Her famous recipes—chocolate fudge, strawberry rhubarb pie, and homemade bread—were made with as much love as her perfectly handwritten holiday cards, always signed “xoxoxo.” She loved reading recipe books with her granddaughters and made sure each grandchild received the perfect card for every occasion. Details mattered to her—every Christmas ornament was named and dated, every letter was heartfelt, and her hair was always set in curlers at night to ensure it looked just right the next day. She was known for her meticulous sewing, knitting, watching hummingbirds, playing board games, and for being a “go-getter” who never sat idle. She often traveled at a moment’s notice to care for her grandchildren—especially for an illness. She enjoyed the simple things in life: burnt toast, a half cup of coffee because a full cup was “just too hot,” and, most of all, chocolate. She had a sweet tooth and a sweet spirit to match.
In her professional life, she worked as a banker in downtown Detroit, often sharing lunch breaks and sweet treats at Quickie Donuts with her sister Karen. Even after retirement, their tradition continued monthly in order to visit, catch-up, and see each other.
Her husband, Arthur built a round house in Milford, Michigan, which she was known for living in. She left a lasting impression on everyone she met. Her warmth, kindness, and the way she thoughtfully treated others will never be forgotten. She lived her life full of grace and compassion. Proud, yet humble, she truly exemplified what it means to "live a life worth living".
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Scott Jay Henderson (Penny); five grandchildren, Jonathon Dodge (Tamara), Justin Jay Henderson (Tiffany), Sarah Eileen Stroud (Sam), Brittainy Smith, and Brandon Smith (Terry Bowen); six great-grandchildren, Cody Dodge, Chelsea Dodge, Delaney Henderson, Harper Henderson, Logan Stroud, and Evan Stroud; two great-great grandchildren; one sister, Karen Kay Long Brimer; numerous nieces and nephews and extended family; prayer partner, Norma DeWilde; close friends, Linda Savage and Dr. Laura Rice (Dr. William Howe).
In accordance with her wishes, Mrs. Henderson was cremated and a celebration of life is being planned and will be announced soon.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Homespun Hospice for the care they showed their mother and grandmother. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be made to Homespun Hospice, 308 N. Wall St. Calhoun, Ga 30701.
