Mr. James Carlton Rayburn Jr.

Mr. James Carlton Rayburn Jr., age 55 of Rome, Georgia passed away on Friday, December 6th, 2024, from injuries sustained in an accident.

Mr. Rayburn was born in Floyd County on June 26th, 1969, to the late James Carlton Rayburn Sr. and the late Darlene Burgess Rayburn. Mr. Rayburn was employed with the City of Rome for over 20 years as a Rome Water Department Supervisor. He loved serving his community, advocating for the North Rome neighborhoods, helping to start a community garden, and training others during community outreach events. He spent time volunteering with Floyd County Emergency Management Agency and was always ready to help however he could. In his spare time, he enjoyed watching softball, John Wayne movies and was an avid Star Wars fan. He loved spending time with his family and taking trips to Gatlinburg. He will be missed greatly by all who knew him and the many lives that he touched every day.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Melissa Ferguson Rayburn of Rome; two daughters, Marissa Rayburn and Nicole Rayburn both of Rome; two sisters, Kim Causby and Holly Rayburn (Justin Brown); his best friend, David Fowler; one aunt, Eloise Waters; several nephews; one niece and a host of cousins; City of Rome Water Department Colleagues and Emergency Management staff. 

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, December 14th, 2024, at 2 PM at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Frank Terpening officiating. Interment will follow in Eastview Cemetery. Gentlemen serving as pallbearers include all the staff members of the Floyd County Emergency Management Agency. Honorary pallbearers include the City of Rome Water Department employees and the City of Rome Fire Department employees.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 14th from 11 AM until 2 PM at the church.
