James William Mcgee

Mr. James William “Magoo” McGee, age 83 of Piedmont, Ala., passed away on Wednesday September 13th, 2023, at Advent Health Redmond.

Mr. McGee was born in Centre, Ala., on July 29th, 1940, a son of the late James Wesley McGee and the late Ruthie Mae Abernathy McGee. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his loving wife, Louise Kelley McGee, and by his grandson, Brandon McGee. He was a loving Husband, Grandfather, and Daddy. Mr. McGee had a love for semi-trucks and classic cars. His love for “Big” trucks started early when he began driving at age 15 and continued to do so throughout his career until retirement. Prior to retirement, he was employed by Cherokee Milling Company. Mr. McGee was of the Holiness faith and attended Exie Congregational Holiness Church.

Survivors include his three sons, Gene McGee of Huntsville, Ala., Bruce McGee of Centre, Jason McGee and his wife, Stacie of Piedmont: one daughter, Angie Sims and her husband, David of Ballplay, Ala.; one brother and sister-in-law, Louie and Joyce McGee; two sisters, Peggy Hunter and Arlean Stepps (Kenneth); eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren to which he was lovingly known as, “Poppy”; his chosen great-grandchildren, Daisy and S.J; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday September 16th, 2023, at 2 PM CST at Exie Congregational Church with Rev. Mark Willingham and Rev. P.D Wheeler Jr. officiating. Entombment will follow in Cherokee Memory Gardens. The Joyful Sounds and Darrell Holcomb will have charge of music. Gentlemen serving as pallbearers include, Dakota Bright, Cole Bright, Josh Bright, Austin Slayton, Matthew McGee, Derrick McGee, and Kenyon Sims.

The family will receive friends on Saturday September 16th from 12 PM until 2 PM CST at the church.
