Margaret "Maggie" Ellen Felkel

Mrs. Margaret "Maggie" Ellen Felkel, age 78, of Rome, Georgia, passed away on Friday, August 8th, 2025, at Fifth Avenue Health Center.

Mrs. Felkel was born on November 18th, 1946, daughter of the late Jack Walter Mallett and the late Fannie "Mae" Jolly Mallett. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by the father of her children, James "Jim" Felkel; infant brother, Troy Mallett; infant sister, Brenda Jane Mallett.

She was born and raised in Rome, Georgia, where she also raised her family. She was feisty and a go getter. She learned quickly to be resourceful and was quiet self sufficient when she became a single mother. It was this very thing that made her fiercely protective of her children and eventually the grandchildren as they came along, and one reason she didn't sit idle - she was always busy! Her home was a place filled with love, laughter, and a place that welcomed you just as she did when you walked in. The fridge was always stocked with goodies for the grandchildren and you could count on chocolate being inside. She loved the color purple, chocolate candy, especially Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, and her favorite drink of choice was Dr. Pepper - oh, how she loved it! Her family could count on her decorating for everything and every holiday. She was happiest when they were. She was an active grandmother , who doled out plenty of time with her grandchildren, from waving hello and goodbye while in the school drop off lines to sharing treats and memories. Family was definitely most important to her. She picked up the hobby of collecting salt and pepper shakers from all over the world just like her maternal grandmother did and her collection was impressive indeed. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading mystery novels, watching science fction on television, being out in the sun while doing yardwork, and Elvis. She could sing every song and went to many of his concerts. She watched every movie he was in and was a true Elvis fan. In her retired life, she became the social butterfly at the healthcare center and was surprisingly competitive with the games there. It didn't matter if it was volleyball or bingo, you could count on her to be looking to take the prize!  Above all the things that she did in life and, her greatest accomplishment was her family. She was a "good Momma" as stated by all three of her children and her loyalty, fierce protection, and abundant love will continue on in the generations to come because she has taught them all what a Momma should be. They will miss her fried potatoes and the BEST biscuits, but her wonderful memories she left them with will forever be cherished.

Survivors include three children,  Brenda Felkel Boyd and her husband Tony, Leize Felkel Shirah, Jimmy Felkel and his wife Beth; four grandchildren, Matthew (Amber) Boyd, Elizabeth (Will) Smith, Ava Shirah, Audrey Shirah; one great grandchild, Stella Boyd; one sister Barbara Mallett Stanley and her husband Bob; one aunt, Julia Whaley; many nieces and nephews; extended family and friends.

In accordance with her final wishes, Ms. Felkel was cremated and no further services are scheduled at this time.
