Mary Elizabeth Self

Mrs. Mary “Elizabeth” Self, age 71, of Rome, Georgia, passed away at a local hospital on Wednesday, April 3, 2024.

Mrs. Self was born in Cordele, Georgia on July 9^th, 1952, to the late Robert Junior Hartley and Louise Franks Hartley. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Self; and one brother, Dean Hartley.

Her occupation as a nurse for over 20 years was a testament to her nurturing nature. She not only nursed but loved, cared for, and touched the lives of her patients, their families, and all those she encountered. Her boundless love started with the fierce dedication she showed in raising her children with kindness and patience that then poured over into laughter and hugs with her grandchildren. She was of the Baptist faith. She enjoyed being outdoors in her garden and pulling weeds to beautify her flower beds. She was a joy and friend to all those who knew her. Her legacy of love, strength, and compassion will forever live on in the hearts of her family and friends, and all those who were fortunate to know her and that shared in her life’s journey.

Mrs. Self was a cherished mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. Survivors include one daughter, Amanda (Devin) Wolf of Rome, GA; one son, Brandon Self of Calhoun, GA; a sister, Katherine (Thurman) Stubbs of Cordele, GA; a brother, J.L. (Robbie) Hartley of Cedartown, GA; two grandchildren, Kaine and Izabella Wolf; a nephew, Klae Hartley who affectionately called her “Aunt Liz”; one uncle, J.W. (Diane) Franks; one aunt, Juanita (Danny) Bannister.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, April 8^th, 2024, at 2 PM from the chapel of Reynolds Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens. Gentlemen serving as pallbearers include Brandon Self, J.L. Hartley, Devin Wolf, Kaine Wolf, and Klae Hartley. Pallbearers are asked to assemble at the funeral home by 1:30 PM on Monday. 

The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 7^th from 5 PM until 8 PM at the funeral home.

Mrs. Self will lie-in-state on Monday from 11 AM until the service hour.
