Murry Cail

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Murry Cail of Rome, Georgia, who departed this life on May 8, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Murry dedicated 38 years of his life as a trusted State Farm Insurance agent in Rome, where his clients came to rely on his integrity, steadfast service, and wonderful sense of humor that brightened even the most routine transactions.

Before settling in Rome, he served the community of Tallahassee, Florida, for 8 years as a respected member of the Leon County Sheriff's Department, working as a road deputy, motorcycle deputy, and school resource officer.

An avid motorcyclist at heart, Murry's passion for riding took him across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, creating countless memories with family and friends along the way. He was a familiar face at motorcycle rallies including Sturgis Bike Week, Daytona Bike Week, Panama City Bike Week, as well as numerous regional GWRRA and EWMA rallies. His dedication to the motorcycling community extended beyond his personal enjoyment—he served 10 years as a Georgia representative with the National Office of Highway Vehicle Conservation Council, working tirelessly to open and maintain riding areas for fellow enthusiasts.

Murry's commitment to motorcycle safety and education was evident in his more than 20-year membership with the Gold Wing Road Riders Association, where he served as a Rider Educator for 10 years. Most recently, he proudly served as Chapter Director of the Rome chapter of Eagle Wings Motorcycle Association since the group's inception.

When not on the open road, Murry found joy in crafting beautiful furniture, a skill he honed through his love of This Old House and Norm Abrams' woodworking programs. His evenings were often spent watching his favorite Hallmark Channel shows and classic westerns, or researching his next camping adventure on YouTube.

Some of Murry's most treasured moments were spent camping with his grandchildren, passing down his love of the outdoors to the next generation. These adventures and the lessons they contained will remain in the hearts of his family forever.

Murry is survived by his wife, Dawn Cail; children, Jeanne Cail Kerner (Bill) and Trey Cail (Amy); stepmother, Helga Cail; brother, Ronnie Cail (Pat); sister, Ellen Cail Nofi (Ed); and grandchildren, Haley, Jeffrey, and Ford. He was preceded in death by his father, Cliff Cail, his mother, Rena Cail Hofheinz and his stepbrother, Roy Byrd.

Murry lived life on his own terms—with an adventurous spirit, skilled hands, and a heart full of love for family and friends. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A celebration of Murry's life will be held on May 31st at Reynolds Funeral Home, 5865 New Calhoun Highway, Rome, GA. This will be a “drop in” celebration with finger foods and fellowship. Come share your stories and anecdotes between 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society or your favorite charity.
